I was raised in Woodstock, NY, or Hippy Mecca, by parents from rural Oklahoma. I like to think of myself as a grounded hippy, if such a thing exists.
Because of my history, I have certain pet peeves. My mom's grandmother was Cherokee, and she didn't let us forget it. Therefore, I had very low tolerance for New Age types growing up, and I still don't have much patience for them, if any at all. I decided to explore paganism because it seemed honest - the rest of my bloodline is Scottish/Welsh, and on my mother's side - Basque and Melungeon, whatever that is. I'm not sure what to do with this mixture, because I'm told it gives me feisty, stubborn blood! I am stubborn in my searching for spirituality that won't seem like exploitation or bullshit. I can't tell you how that's coming - there are times I want to give up.
I love comedy. I dig live, participatory, theatre. There's something about human beings actually having to interact with each other thats seems captivating, like a lost art. A room full of people not focused on some damned screen seems exotic.
I'm not big on technology. I'm competent with it. My dad was a computer engineer and programmer who worked at IBM. I have two film degrees, but am not enamored by the Glowing Screens that constantly surround us anymore, everywhere we go. I have some of my dad's technical talent, but I tend to use it collecting foreign languages.
If given a choice, I'd be a luddite. If I had to choose a mud hut over a poisoned body and planet, then I'd tell stories in the dark. I haven't been given a choice. This is the world I have. After a year of being all but homeless, I am settled in an adobe house in the "land of manana". People here actually call you on the phone - fancy that. There are chickens out back, and I hang out my wash. I love it here.
